Sunder Menon. File photoThrissur: Five days after he allegedly attacked an MBA student in Thrissur by barging into her flat at midnight, Padma award winner businessman T.A. Sunder Menon is still at large.
The Thrissur East police have confiscated the car Menon used at the time of the incident, but the lawyer representing the victim alleges that police were not taking any action in the case.
"The police have seized his car, but they are not taking any real action against him. The seizure of the car is only an eyewash to make an impression that they were acting on the complaint," adv. R.K. Asha Unnithan told Onmanorama over phone on Friday. She added that Menon could influence the police to cover up the case.
The police said that Menon is at large after he was charged with non-bailable offenses. However, the police were not willing to give more details. Asked about reports that Menon is suspected to have fled the country, Thrissur East SI Raj Kumar, who is probing the case, said he was not aware of it.
Malayala Manorama had on Friday reported that the police have found that Menon had used his mobile phone at Coimbatore airport the other day. However, Raj Kumar abruptly disconnected the phone call when Onmanorama asked him about it.
Parvathi Venugopal, daughter of a marine engineer in Thrissur town, was assaulted by Menon Sunday night. Menon is said to have some dispute with Parvathi's father Venugopal. The girl was hospitalized after Menon twisted and broke her hand.
Menon was awarded the Padma Shri in 2015 for the contributions made by his trust to the social and educational welfare of the weaker sections of the Indian society.
