Gate automation
There is no need to change the existing gate to make it automated. The old gate could be automated in just one-third of the cost of installing a brand new one. Motors are fixed using gate openers to automate the gates. However, the gates need to be fairly new and sturdy to do the automation. If the gates aren’t strong enough, the automation would not last longer. But, gates that are made in soft wood isn’t suitable for automation. In case of sliding doors, proper cables and motors that help slide the gate have to be chosen.
Automation on swing gates
There are two ways to do automation on swing gates. The first method is to automate the gates using motors that are placed under the soil. However, this method is possible only in areas where water wouldn’t be logged. The gate could be opened from both the sides if the motor is installed like this. However, it is expensive and is quite difficult to install.
The second method is to place the motors on the gate post at a height. These are called RAM gate motors. Besides saving the motors from floods, this method helps maintenance and repairing easier too.
Tips to note while doing gate automation
Try to know the positions of sewage pipes, pipe lines or underground cables before installing the power cables and ducts for gate automation. Make sure that these things are not damaged during the process. Besides, the gates should be fitted with residual current device (RCD) to avoid electric shocks.
Advantages of automated gates
It is easier to operate as gates could be opened or closed from 20 – 30 meters away. Besides, they ensure security as outsiders cannot easily open the gates. Moreover, the safety of the kids while they play in the front yard could be ensured if the gates are automated.
