In most cases, gardens or landscapes are designed after the structure is built so that the greenery could perfectly complement the new house. However, Suresh Kumar and his family had created a mesmerizing garden first and then built a quaint house in the midst of spectacular greenery, in Chenkottukonam in Thiruvananthapuram.
Suresh Kumar confesses that the pandemic had altered his ideas about life and well-being. At that time, the family had dwelt in a flat where they felt suffocated. The balcony was the only spot from where they could catch a glimpse of nature.
The family began dreaming of building a house with lots of space in the front and back. Suresh’s children have settled abroad with their respective families. So, the couple wanted a small house where they could live comfortably.
They bought an 8 cents plot in the beautiful countryside in order to build a house. However, before the construction began, they concentrated on designing a splendid garden area and landscape which transformed the plot into a magical haven of greenery.
Suresh Kumar is a well-known yoga instructor who has lots of disciples in many foreign countries. It was one of his disciples, a German architect, who had designed the landscape of the house. Meanwhile, architect Shershah designed the house to cater to the needs and likes of the family.
The scintillating landscape has pebble-paved walkways, verdant lawns, lots of trees and plants, a fish pond and benches where you can sit and relax. It took around a year to design and grow the garden just as they had wished. The construction of the house had begun only after that.
Interestingly, fabulous views of the garden could be enjoyed from everywhere in the house which is designed in 550 sqft. The living area, dining space and mini kitchen are arranged in the open hall. A bedroom and an attached bathroom complete the quaint house.
A gazebo has been built in the garden to relax amidst the greenery. Suresh Kumar says that it is easier to maintain the house as it is small yet comfortable.
