Anil Kumar’s fifteen-year-old house at Puthenkurisu in Kochi, Kerala, hardly looked like it belonged to the modern era. So, the family members gave a stylish makeover to their house that had congested rooms, and spaces that lacked natural sunshine and air circulation.
Interestingly, only the car porch of the old house was taken down and the rest of the structure has been retained. Two spacious bedrooms and a terrace have been newly added on the upper floor. Meanwhile, the interiors were rearranged, without losing the soul of the house, to let in natural sunlight and cool breeze.
The old house had a sloped roof, giving the elevation a classic traditional look. Now, the elevation has undergone a complete makeover, donning chic contemporary vibes. The roof played a pivotal role in altering the look of the elevation. Moreover, timeless designs and smart ideas have been incorporated into this house to make it space-efficient too.
The house that originally had a 1470 sqft area, now sprawls over 2752 sqft, adding an elegant charm to the interiors. Meanwhile, materials that could be reused have been used to give the house an evergreen quality. The old black granite flooring has been retained as it still looks stylish and clean.
The warm and cosy interiors are extremely alluring, making the family happy and relaxed. The huge windows in the living area make the space look spacious. Furniture has been arranged in a straight line to add a sharp yet sophisticated look to the areas. Meanwhile, the green couch set in the formal living area makes the space extremely vibrant.
The spacious interiors allow the family members to communicate with each other comfortably. The staircase that features the splendid combination of concrete, steel and wood is a fabulous piece of art. The wash area, meanwhile, has been arranged beneath the staircase, adding to the space efficiency of the house. Besides, a shoe rack and a storage area are added as well here.
The dining area is close to the staircase, with a crockery unit on the wall. The kids’ bedrooms on the upper floor have been designed as per their wishes. Besides, a space has been reserved here for installing a home theatre system in the future.
The kitchen dons the mesmerizing colour combination of yellow and white. Besides a breakfast counter, the kitchen wall is lined with lots of cabinets too. The countertop, meanwhile, is paved with nano white. The house has been renovated to look beautiful and classy as it highlights spectacular designer elements and smartly designed spaces.
