A basket of ripe mangoes can turn a bad day into a good one, goes a famous quote. The king of fruits, rich in vitamins A and C, copper, folate, magnesium, potassium, vitamin B6 and vitamin K, can also improve gut health,  reduce body weight, improve skin and hair health, control blood pressure and boost immunity if a healthy person eats it right. However, what about those who have diabetes? Can they enjoy the fruit? Here's what you should know:
A mango a day
Diabetes patients can eat half to one mango a day. A medium-sized mango has around 50 grams of carbs. You can check your blood sugar level before and after consuming the fruit, to get an idea of the spike. You can also pair it with protein, like a handful of nuts, to prevent the spikes.

Before eating the mango…
Engage in light physical activities like walking and drinking enough water before enjoying your daily dose of mango. You can drink a glass of water mixed with chia seeds and lemon juice or eat a palmful of almonds before eating the mango. This will help control the blood sugar levels to a certain extent. Also, choose mangoes like Alphonso and Kesar, which have low glycemic index.
After eating the mango…
Avoid other similar high-carb, sweet foods for the day and ensure that you eat healthy. Also, drink plenty of water. Make sure you avoid stressful situations, as it can raise blood sugar levels. Do not forget to have your medications too, on time.
