Kottayam: A court here has handed over death penalty to Narendra Kumar, a UP native, for murdering three of a family at Parampuzha near Kottayam in May, 2015.

Observing the crime as a 'rarest of rare' case, Kottayam principal sessions court pronounced its verdict in the sensational murder case Tuesday.

“The number of criminals among migrant laborers has been on a rise of late. This verdict is a warning to them,” the bench said.

The court also said that the capital punishment will be administered with the permission of the Kerala High Court.

It was last Tuesday that the court convicted Kumar in the murder case.

Lalason, 72, of Mooleparambil House, Thuruthelpadi; his wife, Presanna Kumari, 54; and their elder son Praveen Lal, 28, were found hacked and electrocuted, with acid poured on their faces on the night of May 16, 2015. The bodies were found at the laundry shop they were running at Parambuzha. The shop is near the family’s house.

Narendra Kumar, who had been an employee at the shop, was arrested from Firozabad by a police team six days after the crime.

The chargesheet submitted by Pampady circle inspector Saju Varghese on August 11 last year comprised 72 witnesses, 63 recovered objects, and 53 documents.

Kumar, who had a debt of Rs 2 lakh, arrived in Kerala with the intention of making money. After committing the murders, he collected the gold jewelry and cash from the house and left for Kottayam Railway station in an auto-rickshaw.

He then went to Thiruvananthapuram and from there, to Mumbai, via Goa. From Mumbai, he went to Firozabad via Agra.

The probe team nabbed Kumar by tracking the signals of the mobile phone he had stolen.
