Kottayam: When the Principal District and Sessions Court, Kottayam, awarded death penalty to Narendra Kumar, a migrant laborer from Uttar Pradesh, in the Parampuzha triple murder case on Tuesday, he heard the judgment without showing any emotional outbreak.

The judgment and the final order was translated into Hindi by the court-appointed interpreter.

Before the court proceedings began in the morning, Narendra Kumar, 26, was seen sitting gloomily on a bench outside the court room flanked by police officials. However, he stood emotionless in the dock with drooping head as the sentence was handed down.

As he stood quietly and expressionless when the verdict was read, the lawyers present at the courtroom started muttering to each other doubting that the convict might not have realized the magnitude of the punishment served on him.

After the sentence was pronounced, he was brought outside the courtroom and was given a copy of the verdict, but there too, he stood wearing the same expression.

When Pampady CI Saju Varghese, who led the investigation team, spoke to him, he responded calmly: “No tension, sir.”

All his answers to security personnel were too in monosyllables.

There was a huge crowd at the court to hear the verdict in the sensational case.

Narendra Kumar, a native of Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, was sentenced to death for hacking Lalason who ran a dry cleaning center at Parambuzha near Kottayam, his wife Presanna Kumari and son Praveen Lal on May 16, 2015.
