Kochi: In an assault akin to a goonda attack, a gang of drunk youngsters brutally assaulted a leading Malayalam film producer, a production controller and a hotel's security guard in Kochi Tuesday night.

Producer Maha Subair, production controller Badushah, hotel Edassery Mansion's security guard Prakash were injured in the attack that took place around 10 pm Tuesday.

Subair, who sustained injuries to his head and right ear, and Prakash, who suffered severe blows to his head, were admitted to Medical Trust Hospital in Kochi.

The youths, who were drinking at the hotel's beer parlor, turned violent and assaulted its security guard. Subair, who arrived at the hotel where the production crew of upcoming Jayaram-starrer Aakasha Mittayi were staying, was attacked by the youths using a 'No Parking' board at the hotel.

Subair has produced several films including Meesha Madhavan, Manassinakkare and Paleri Manikyam under his banner Varnachitra. Aakasha Mittayi, which marks the Malayalam debut of Tamil filmmaker Samuthirakani, is his latest production venture.

The attack on Subair comes as yet another shocker to Kochi, where a popular Malayalam actress was harassed in a moving car in February.
