Agali, Palakkad: Two newborn tribal babies have died in Attapadi of congenital diseases.

The infant girl belonging to Chikkandiyur hamlet was just six days old. The male baby in Manchikandiyur survived only 35 days.

The baby girl was under treatment at the Medical College Hospital, Thrissur, for breathing difficulties. She was earlier diagnosed with heart ailment and poor growth during prenatal stage at a private hospital in Kottathara here and was weighing only 745 grams at birth.

The hospital referred her to the medical college for expert care.

The baby boy was being attended to at a private hospital in Coimbatore as he was found to have a breathing difficulty, apart from septicemia (infection in the blood).

Eight infants have died in the Attapadi region so far this year. The toll last year was 16.
