Idukki: A man and his two sons died of electrocution from a broken power line while working in a water-logged field at Nair City in Rajakandam in Idukki on Tuesday.

The deceased were Chembakassery Kanakadharan (57), Vishnu (31) and Vineeth (28).

According to villagers, the region received heavy rains for two days and the paddy field where the family grew fodder grass was filled with water.

The trio had reportedly gone to the paddy field around 2 pm and the incident came to light by 3.30 pm when Vishnu's wife saw, Kanakadharan lying head down, from a distance.

“She alerted the neighbours and relatives. At that point, no one knew where the power line had broken and came in contact with water. But nobody was able to enter the waters due to electric shock,” said ward councillor Raji Santhosh Kumar.

“Later, the trio was taken to a private hospital at Nettithozu. But they were declared brought dead,” Raji said. The Vandanmedu Police said the electrocution occurred from a broken KSEB line.

Kanakadharan leaves his wife Omanayamma. Vishnu leaves his wife Athira and one-and-a-half-year son, Goutham. Vineeth was unmarried.
