Wayanad: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sharply criticised the lackadaisical attitude of the Kozhikode and Wayanad district administrations in ensuring smooth travel of citizens. The panel also cited its earlier order on the issue.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the rights panel acting chairperson K Baijunath, who is also the lone judicial member of the body, ordered the officials concerned to ensure speedy solutions for the traffic snarl-ups in the Ghat Road stretch of NH 766 that links Kozhikode and Wayanad.

Acting on the news reports about long vehicle queues, it also sought reports from police on the action taken to solve the issues. In January, the panel had directed the officials to ensure restrictions for goods vehicle movement through the ghat road at peak hours during holidays. The Commission also ordered the district collectors and district police chiefs of both districts to inform it within a month of the steps taken on the reports they had submitted in January.
