Man booked for defrauding couple of Rs 5 lakh over job scam in Alappuzha

Alappuzha: Police arrested a man for allegedly defrauding a couple by promising them overseas jobs. Mithilaj (33), a resident of Azhikode in Kannur district, was apprehended by the Muhamma police following a complaint filed by the victims, who are natives of Muhamma in Alappuzha.
According to the complaint, Mithilaj promised the couple jobs in Saudi Arabia and collected Rs 5 lakh from them on multiple occasions. The accused, who worked as a manager at a hotel in Muhamma, reportedly established contact with the complainants while they were customers at the hotel.
The couple lodged the complaint after receiving no updates about the promised jobs despite handing over the money. Mithilaj was at large after the case was registered but was eventually tracked down and arrested in Azhikode.
The arrest was carried out by a police team led by Inspector of Police, Muhamma, M Laizad Muhammad. The accused was produced in court and has been remanded in custody.
