Kottayam: A class ten student died here at Amayannur on Saturday after the two-wheeler he was travelling on collided with a car. The deceased, Jithin (15), son of Biju from Chelakad house in Neerikad, was riding as a pillion passenger with his elder brother, Jibin (21).

The accident occurred around 4:30 pm when the brothers were on their way to Oravackal and were struck by a car carrying a family. Ayarkunnam police have charged the car driver under Section 106 of Bharatiya Nyaya sanhita (BNS) for causing death by negligence.

Jithin, who sustained serious injuries in the crash, was taken to Kottayam Medical College Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way. Jibin, who suffered severe leg injuries, is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Cherpunkal.
