Air India to fly Boeing Dreamliner on Kochi-Dubai route from February 1

New Delhi: Air India’s first Boeing 787 Dreamliner for Kochi will begin operations next month.

According to AI officials, daily flights on the Kochi-Delhi-Dubai sector will be operated with the long-haul fuel-efficient Dreamliner from February 1.

The national carrier has completed all formalities to launch a Dreamliner flight from Kochi to Dubai and is awaiting a formal nod from the Parliamentary Consultative Committee attached to the Civil Aviation Ministry, a senior AI official said.

Flight schedules will be published soon, he added.

It had been a long-pending demand from Kerala to the national carrier to introduce Dreamliner flights to the state’s commercial capital, but the proposal remained on paper due to various reasons.

Air India chairman Ashwani Lohani, announced the decision to operate a Dreamliner on the Kochi-Dubai route while replying to a question raised by Parliamentary Consultative Committee member K.C. Venugopal, MP.

The Dreamliner, introduced by Boeing in 2011, provides long-distance capabilities with mid-size capacity. The airplane is configured to accommodate 240-335 passengers. Its high points are lower fuel consumption and maintenance costs. It is capable of flying over 15,000 km non-stop.
