Thiruvananthapuram: From January 15, applications for a new electricity connection can be submitted online.
A provision to make payments via Paytm will also be launched on the same day.
Once the application fee for a new connection is made online, the electricity board officials will visit the premises for necessary inspections and prepare the documents. If a new electric post is required, the officials will give an estimate of the cost via email or SMS. The payment for the same can also be made online.
Following demonetization, the use of Paytm has increased across the country. However, the electricity board did not accept this mode of payment. There was a provision to pay via Akshaya e-centers but the money would be credited in the board's account only after 48 hours. From January 15, the payments from Akshaya centers will get credited the same day.
The new online services will be launched by power minister M.M. Mani.
