Kozhikode: In reply to the criticism against the CPM leaders' attempts to tap the advantages of IT and social media to make electoral gains decades after staging protests against computerisation, CPM politburo member M.A. Baby blamed it on the choice of words to explain its earlier stance on development of IT sector.
M.A. Baby on Wednesday said there were some issues with the party's choice of words in explaining its opposition to computerisation.
"The CPM's stance was that all those who lose their jobs due to computerisation should be rehabilitated. The same thing happened in the case of tractors also," Baby said admitting that the party might have failed to explain its stance on information technology correctly.
"The CPM's intention was right. And we don't mind admitting it if we have made a mistake," the legislator from Kollam said after inaugurating A. Pradeep Kumar's social media campaigning here.
Baby said the CPM does not have any alliance with the Congress in West Bengal. "Trinamool government has been slaughtering democracy in Bengal. There is only an understanding between the CPM and Congress to regain democracy in the state," Baby said.
The rival parties raked up the CPM's infamous opposition to computerisation after party's seniormost leader V.S. Achuthanandan launched his social media platforms the other day for election campaigning.
CPM leaders including Achuthanandan have been trying to assuage the criticism citing various IT-related programmes including the launch of Technopark, India's first IT park, in Thiruvananthapuram during the LDF rule.
