Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram district collector has taken strict action against a school here which functioned against the officer's order.

Collector Biju Prabhakar on Monday disconnected power supply to Sree Gokulam Public School at Chirayinkeezhu for conducting classes, ignoring his order. The collector had announced holiday for all schools in the district till May 20 in the wake of scorching summer heat.

Meanwhile, the collectors of Kottayam, Kollam and Idukki districts have also announced holiday for schools due to prevailing heatwave. In Kottayam, schools will remain shut till Thursday.

Kollam collector has announced holiday for schools, including those following CBSE and ICSE syllabi, till May 20.

Educational institutions, excluding professional colleges, in Idukki will remain closed till May 9.
