Kochi: By completely ignoring the probability of a larger conspiracy in the case related to the assault on a young Malayalam actress, the LDF government has been trying to hush up the case, alleged P.T. Thomas MLA. The police investigation has so far been centered only on just one person, he said.

Terming the allegations leveled by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the assembly the other day that Thomas had intervened to delay the arrest of prime accused Sunil Kumar Surendran aka Pulsar Suni baseless, the MLA said, “The person who came up with such an allegation has the moral responsibility to prove it. If someone could produce evidence of my alleged telephonic conversation with Pulsar Suni on that day, I will resign as MLA. If the charges are not proved, will the chief minister make amends for making false statements?

Thomas said that though he wanted to give a fitting reply to the chief minister in the assembly itself, the Speaker did not allow him to speak.

“I had gone to actor Lal’s residence along with producer Anto Joseph soon after being alerted about the incident. The Thrikkakara assistant commissioner had already reached there. It was me who asked the police to question Martin, the driver of the car in which the actress traveled, after I grew suspicious of his behavior.

“During interrogation, he revealed about the texting of messages to a person during the journey. The police secured that phone number and both assistant commissioner and Anto Joseph tried to contact the person over their phones. As I was busy calling Ernakulam Range IG P. Vijayan, I could not listen to the conversation they were having with that person,” Thomas said.

The police immediately alerted the Cybercell to trace the tower location of Suni’s mobile phone, and within 10 minutes it was confirmed that he was near Gandhi Nagar. Yet, the police could not track him down or arrest him. It is a shame that they waited until he decided to surrender, Thomas added.
