The victim, Arjun.Thodupuzha: A 20-year-old college student, who sustained severe head injuries after being hit with a beer bottle two days ago, died at a private hospital here on Thursday.
The police arrested a Plus Two student in this connection.
The victim, Arjun, son of Ambattu Veettil Thankachan and Vilasini of Vandamattom in Kodikulam panchayat, was attacked near Vellamchira around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to the police, Arjun and the sister of the arrested student were college-mates.
The girl had an affair with another student of the same college, and an audio tape containing a phone conversation between the two was allegedly in possession of Arjun.
The accused invited Arjun home on Tuesday night to solve the issue amicably, but a scuffle broke out. Suddenly, the accused hit Arjun on the head with a beer bottle, injuring him severely, the police said.
The victim rode his bike for about a kilometer before collapsing on the road near Irampilly junction. He was rushed to the hospital by passersby.
Hospital authorities reported head injury as the cause of death, Kaliyar CI Augustine Mathew said.
The arrested student will be produced before the Juvenile Board at the District Court Complex in Thodupuzha on Friday.Arjun’s body will be cremated at 4 p.m. after a post-mortem examination at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
He was a third year BA Literature student of St Joseph’s College, Moolamattom.
