Kazhakoottam: Rahul G Dev, a second-year PG student at the Kerala University Karyavattom campus was suspended for ragging first-year PG students at the hostel of the university. Rahul was staying at the hostel.

Some other second-year students are also accused in the case. One first-year student had complained against ragging while five students had left the hostel unable to bear the strain. Meanwhile the SFI has threatened the junior students that they would not be allowed to complete their course if they do not withdraw the complaint.

First year Bio-informatics student, Rajesh Babu, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, filed a complaint with the VC, National Minority Commission and UGC after ragging by second-year students became unbearable. The suspension of the senior student followed intervention by the Vice Chancellor. The Registrar had been appointed to probe the complaint and it was found that the student had lodged a factual complaint.

From the day the first-year students came to the college, seniors had been ragging them. Ragging went as far as disrobing junior students and making a mockery of their plight and preventing them from having food if directions of the seniors were not adhered to.
