Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Electricity Board is all set to go the digital way with a slew of consumer-freindly measures. All new applications for power connection can be made online from October onwards, electricity minister Kadakampally Surendran said here on Tuesday.
In another major move, the KSEB will introduce a toll free number to address grievances of the consumers. People can register their complaints by calling at 1912 from anywhere in the state. Consumers can also register their complaints via WhatsApp at 9496018367.
"Likewise, from now on the board will inform every consumer the bill amount through SMS and e-mail. It will also alert people if there is a temporary power outage and about the expected time of power restoration," added the minister. Similarly, consumers will also be alerted about due date to pay the bills. The services will come into effect this month.
In Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam Thrissur and Kozhikode, the KSEB has installed cash deposit machines using which consumers can pay bills. The machines will be functional soon and the service will be extended to other places if it turns out to be a success, the minister said.
