New Delhi: Malayalam actor and Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi on Wednesday joined the BJP here in the presence of union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and party general secretary Bhupinder Yadav.
"The BJP will be strengthened further in Kerala by the joining of Suresh Gopi," Naqvi said, after the actor's formal induction into the party.
The 57-year-old actor had earlier said he would not say "no" if BJP leaders invited him to join the party.
A vocal supporter of the saffron party, the actor was recently nominated to the Rajya Sabha by prime minister Narendra Modi, triggering talk about his imminent entry into the saffron party.
There were also moves to field him from a constituency in Thiruvananthapuram in assembly polls, but the actor reportedly turned down the proposal.
He had aggressively campaigned for the BJP in the assembly elections, which finally saw the party making its debut in the assembly with O. Rajagopal's victory from Nemom.
