Kochi: The friends and relatives of director Rajesh Pillai, who succumbed to a lethal liver cirrhosis the other day, have come out rejecting reports that it was unhealthy food habits that led to his untimely death.

Sources close to the late filmmaker have said Rajesh's liver cirrhosis was due to genetic reasons and not due to over consumption of junk food and cola as being circulated in social media.

Rajesh's friend Dr. Roney said the director's mother and uncle died due to the same disease. It was two years ago that Rajesh was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis.

His cinema was always his top priority. The disease became severe as he chose to finish his committed projects neglecting health condition. Those who spread rumours over his death should realise the truth at least now, his relatives said.
