Chengannur: The unassuming three-storey building on the Sasthampuram Market Road here had become a castle of mysteries for the local people by Friday evening. They realized something was wrong when they saw police personnel combing inside the building and its premises. In no time, the news about the disappearance of building owner Joy and his son Sherin broke. The police kept vigil throughout the night and the building was brought under surveillance.
On Saturday morning, upon seeing several police jeeps rushing to the spot, hundreds of local people gathered in front of the building. However, the police did not allow them to enter the premises. It was pitch-black inside the warehouse and initially the police had to use torchlights to search the huge room. In the meantime, a diesel generator and halogen lamps were brought to light up the godown.
Finger print expert S. Manjusha, a forensic team led by M. Hari Prasanth from the District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB), Kollam, and a sniffer dog squad inspected the crime scene and collected evidence as the acrid smell of burnt human flesh permeated the air.
The forensic team recovered an iron-sheet with bits of human flesh from one corner of the building’s corridor. A blood-stained footwear was also spotted next to it. The relatives have confirmed that it was Joy’s shirt, the police said.
Within a couple of minutes, the police came across the most vital evidence: scattered bloodstains on the building’s wall. The blood spatter clearly indicated that the victim was stuck with a bullet.
The police, who had been searching for clues to trace the missing duo, realised that the man-missing case has turned out be a cold-blooded murder case.
The experts have lifted more than one set of fingerprints from the cars parked in the parking space in the ground floor. It indicated that they might have engaged in a violent clash with each other before the shooting, the police said.
