Representative imageThiruvananthapuram: Work visas to UAE would now be issued at the consulate in Thiruvananthapuram. In the first phase, house maid and blue collar job visas would be on offer.
The facility would offer visas to workers from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The visas are also available from the UAE embassy in Delhi.
Earlier, the UAE foreign affairs ministry used to issue the visa and workers used to get only the copies of their visas. The original would be received only upon landing at UAE. With the new arrangement, the visa would have delivered at home. This would reduce visa frauds, according to Hussain Al Zaabi, UAE Consulate General. He added that the service is not running to full potential since these are early days. Other work Visas are being issued by the UAE directly.
When the visa is ready, authorities would send a reference number to the applicant. Visa can be collected with the reference number from the consulate in Thiruvananthapuram.
The consulate started operating at Thiruvananthapuram on the 19th of the last month. About 200 applications are processed here on a daily basis.
