Malappuram: The Malappuram district sessions court Thursday found a woman and her friend guilty of murdering her husband, a gas agency owner in Valanchery last year.

The court pronounced first accused Jaseentha George (Jyothi) and her aide and second accused Muhammad Yusuf guilty of murdering Vinod Kumar, owner of a petrol pump and gas agency in Valanchery.

The duo have been slapped with charges of murder, conspiracy and destruction of evidence. The court is expected to annouce the quantum of punishment soon.

Vinod was hacked to death in his sleep on October 8, 2015. There were about 32 wounds on his body.

Apart from Jyothi, the deceased Vinod had one more wife and a child in that relationship. Jyothi feared that Vinod's wealth would go to the other wife and decided to kill her husband.

Jyothi sought the help Yusuf, her friend, to commit the murder. On the night of the crime, she reportedly asked Yusuf to cut her throat so that it looks like a robbery attempt.

However, the police cracked the case and arrested both Jyothi and Yusuf.
