First set of South Sudan evacuees to reach Kerala Friday | Story in 7 points Minister of State for external affairs V.K Singh arrives at AFS Palam in New Delhi early Thursday morning to depart for South Sudan to lead the government's operation 'Sankat Mochan' for evacuating Indians from the violence-hit African country. » An IAF C-17 Globemaster landed at the Thiruvananthapuram airport at 5.00 am Friday with the first set of 156 evacuees from violence-hit South Sudan.

» This batch includes 46 Keralites and two Nepal citizens; seven women and three children in the batch.

» A second flight is expected to land by 11 am Friday.

» Two IAF C-17s have been deployed for the evacuation, dubbed Operation Sankat Mochan, headed by retired general V.K. Singh, the minister of state for external affairs.

» Indian nationals with valid travel documents will be allowed in the evacuation flights with a maximum 5 kg cabin baggage and no check-in pieces.

» More than 500 Indians will be evacuated; some 300 Indians will continue to stay in South Sudan because of their business interests.

» V.K. Singh had earlier overseen the evacuation of Indians from Yemen.

» There are about 600 Indians in South Sudan, with 450 of them in and around capital Juba.
