Mumbai: Aditya Tare led from the front with a sparkling knock as Mumbai scored a six-wicket win over Kerala in their opening Super League match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Twenty20 Championship here on Friday.
Tare smashed 71 off 46 balls as the hosts overhauled the victory target of 161 with five balls to spare. His innings contained nine boundaries and a six.
Tare added 70 runs for the third wicket in the company of Siddhesh Lad (36). The skipper was then involved in a 48-run stand for the fourth wicket, partnering Abhishesk Nayar (38 not out).
Earlier, Rohan Prem's fine half-century (69, 45b, 7x4, 2x6) took Kerala to 160/7 in 20 overs after put in to bat. The southpaw was ably supported by captain Sachin Baby (32) and Sanju V. Samson (22).
Hardik Pandya did the star turn with a brilliant 46-ball unbeaten 86 as Baroda defeated Vidrabha by six wickets in another Group A game.
Defending champions Gujarat outplayed Delhi by eight wickets, while Uttar Pradesh routed Jharkhand by nine wickets in Group B games.
Kerala take on Baroda and Mumbai play Vidarbha in Group A fixtures on Saturday.
Brief scores: Kerala 160/7 in 20 overs (Rohan Prem 69; Sagar Trivedi 3/34) lost to Mumbai 164/4 in 19.1 overs (Aditya Tare 71).
