K-Rail proposes a new alignment for the Silverline project to address Railways' concerns over land acquisition, with the project planned under a PPP model
The minister mentioned the SilverLine with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Industrial Minister P Rajeev, two of the key promoters of the project, and Leader of the Opposition V D Satheesan, who has vehemently opposed it, on the dais.
The estimated cost for the SilverLine project was Rs 63,940 crore, with the central government expected to contribute Rs 6,313 crore.
Sreedharan maintains that Kerala, being a continuous stretch of urban centres, does not require a train with a top speed of 350 km/h.
