The monsoon is crucial for the Indian economy, as it brings nearly 75% of the rain needed by farms, besides replenishing reservoirs and aquifers.
A yellow alert has been issued for 10 districts on Friday - Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Palakkad, and Wayanad districts.
Kasaragod received the highest pre-monsoon showers, a whopping 569% above normal. Usually the northernmost district is the driest patch of land in Kerala during the first half of the pre-monsoon period.
Rainfall will be 96 per cent to 104 per cent of the Long Period Average (LPA) of 87 cm of the 1971-2020 period.

IMD has predicted rainfall in the State till April 12 and has asked to exercise caution, especially on Saturday.
