Azad had resigned as chairman of the campaign committee in Jammu and Kashmir a few days ago.
Azad's resignation has come to surprise for many in the party as it was considered that he was consulted in the key appointments and was active in party forums.
However, the G-23 leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad, Bupinder Singh Hooda and Anand Sharma kept mum on the issue.
Azad, after meeting the party chief on Friday, had toned down the group's demands, saying that there is no question on the leadership, and that there is no vacancy right now.
The Congress' 'G-23' group, which is seeking a party overhaul, seem to have toned down its demand of leadership change.
A group of Congress workers led by Sonia Gandhi loyalists Arjun Singh and N D Tiwari had led such a revolt against Narasimha Rao in the 1990s.
Shashi Tharoor, Kapil Sibal and Manish Tewari are among the prominent faces attending the meet.
