Curious for fried ice-cream? Head to Aalibhai's thattukada at Kozhikode beach

Kozhikode natives' never ending love for delicious food and serene beaches are quite well-known. On holidays, families head straight to the Kozhikode beach to enjoy the crimson beauty of the setting sun. Incredibly proud of their vibrant coasts, they are sure that the beach would give the famed Marina Beach in Chennai a run for its money, if the proposed developmental projects are meticulously executed.

Fried ice cream

Aalibhai's thattukada (road-side shop) on the Valiyangadi road, facing the ocean, excites the customers' nostalgia with its quaint decor and wonderful ambience. Their fried ice cream has become quite popular and lots of people come here to try out this unique dish.

The fried ice cream, served on a pristine white dish, looks like the 'kayappam' (a popular evening snack made with wheat flour, banana and jaggery). However, once the crispy crust (which has a hint of corn flour and gram flour) is broke open with a spoon, the frozen sweetness of the vanilla ice cream peeps out. The crispiness of the crust makes an unusual yet delicious contrast to the cold vanilla ice cream. The dish is so enjoyable that you forget you are actually eating a scoop of good old vanilla ice cream. However, one has to dig into this dish pretty quickly as it may soon turn gooey and melt into the serving dish.
