Why Boeing traced a giant Dreamliner in the sky during a test flight

An endurance test is a serious deal. But, this creative team from Boeing decided to have some fun in between.

“Rather than fly in random patterns, the test team got creative, flying a route that outlined a 787-8 in the skies over 22 states,” Boeing explained in a statement. “The nose of the Dreamliner is pointing at the Puget Sound region, home to Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The wings stretch from northern Michigan near the Canadian border to southern Texas. The tail touches Huntsville, Alabama,” a company release said.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was given clearance to embark on a 4,000 mile winding route to finish in 17 hours. The flight kicked off from Seattle headquarters at 11pm on Tuesday and cruised along at 41,000 ft. This is not the first time that Boeing has pulled a PR stunt like this.
