Inspiring lectures, Merit Day honours at TKM College

An edition of a lecture series being held at the T.K.M. College of Arts and Science, Kollam was organised on Tuesday. Oratoria Lecture Series, jointly organised by the Department of English and the literary club of the reputed college, is sponsored by the Kerala Youth Commission. Its main objective is to equip the students with the literary and the cultural texts outside the realm of the syllabi.

The first lecture in the series entitled 'The Emergence of Kerala Modernity' was delivered on March 12 by Dr. P.K. Rajasekhran, the renowned Malayalam literary critic and the news editor of the 'Mathrubhoomi'. In his vivacious talk, he introduced an innovative notion of a Kerala modernity which is different from the usually discussed modernism in literature. He asserted that this Kerala model of modernity is not to be appraised on the basis of a post-industrial society.

Merit day

The institution organised a Merit Day and formal inauguration of Research Consultancy Services on March 11. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. C.Raveendranath, the Minister for Education, in the presence of M. Noushad, MLA, Janab Shahal Hassan Musaliar, the President of the T.K.M. College Trust, Janab Jalaluddin Musaliar, the treasurer of the Trust, Janab M. Haroon, a member of the Trust, and Prof. A.Hashimudeen, Principal, T.K.M. College of Arts and Science.

Following the inaugural ceremony, the students who excelled in University examinations and curricular and co-curricular activities were honoured. Scholarships sponsored by Global Alumni (UAE chapter) were distributed by Shahal Hassan Musaliar. The highlight of the programme was the opening of the Research Consultancy Service which is being supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Fund for Improvement of S&T (DST-FIST).

The consultancy service aims to nurture potential collaboration among educational institutions, research centres, R&D labs and industries, and to serve facilities.
