B Tech students can hereafter opt for an additional degree course in other branches of Engineering. This would be made possible by enabling lateral entry.
The All-Indian Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given the nod to pursue another B Tech course in a different subject through lateral entry.
The candidates have to study as a regular student for 2 to 3 years to complete their second BTech degree. For more information visit – www.aicte-india.org.
Such students needn't study again those subjects they had already taken up as part of their first BTech degree as per a valid credit system.
The Council has instructed the vice chancellors of the technical universities and the principals of the institutes to make appropriate decisions about the guidelines for the admission process. They have to modify and implement the various statutes too in order to give effect to the changes.
Getting a second BTech degree would be beneficial for those who think that it is better to earn another degree in contemporary subjects like Artificial Intelligence or Cyber Security rather that going for a two-year long MTech course after completing B Tech in one of the traditional streams. Meanwhile, those who have secured a BTech degree in a new-generation subject could get another degree in a core subject too.
Moreover, this is an amazing chance for the candidates who have scored lower grade points/score in their first degree to improve their academic profile. However, they have to consider all aspects of the features and guidelines before making a sensible decision.
