Railway invites applications for 5,696 vacancies of assistant loco pilots

Various railway recruitment boards (RRBs) in the country are conducting recruitment for 5,696 vacancies of assistant loco pilots and February 19 is the last date to apply. There are 70 vacancies in Thiruvananthapuram RRB. The centralized employment notice number for the recruitment is 01/2024.


Applicants should have passed class 10 and completed SCVT/NCVT-approved ITI/apprenticeship in any one of the following trades:

Fitter, electrician, instrument mechanic, millwright/maintenance mechanic, mechanic (radio & TV), electronics mechanic, mechanic (motor vehicle), wireman, tractor mechanic, armature & coil winder, mechanic (diesel), heat engine, turner, machinist, refrigeration & AC mechanic.

Those with a three-year diploma or equivalent qualification in mechanical/electrical /electronics/automobile engineering can apply. Candidates holding an engineering degree in these branches also will be considered.

However, students awaiting their final year results need not apply.


The applicants should be aged between 18 and 30 years on July 1, 2024. Relaxation in age would be available for eligible categories.


Salaries will start from Rs 19,900.

Selection process

Candidates will have to face a computer-based test (CBT), computer-based aptitude test, document verification and medical check-up which will be conducted in two phases for selection. Apart from English, CBT could be attempted in Malayalam also. Details in this regard are given on the website.


Application fee is Rs 500, of which Rs 400 will be refunded after the first round of CBT. The fee for candidates belonging to Scheduled, ex-service personnel, women, transgender, minorities and EBC categories is Rs 250. The refund amount after the first phase of CBT is also Rs 250.

Things to note

Bank charges would be collected along with the fees. The fees should be submitted online.

A candidate cannot apply for more than one RRB.
