At the point in her life, when Malti Menon decided to quit being the stereotype and moved towards arts and design, perhaps she herself wouldn't have seen how it was going to mold. A successful artist today, she has proved the world that her choice was right. Locked inside the accounts' room of mind-numbing numbers, Malti realized that B.Com was not her cup of tea and decided to follow her true passion in the world of colors.

Her job as a teacher of fashion illustration at the International Institute of Fashion Technology, Surat, helps be in touch with the current generation.

Menon considers herself as a mere medium through which subjects of her paintings, who were always around, made their way to the physical world. The theme struck her when she started the work of her painting 'Flow of Knowledge'.

“The flow and merging of colors represent the fluidity of the inner mind and the subtle, eventual merging with the universal and of the unity with the infinite. In a manner, it is subjective yet instantaneously perceivable to the viewer,” said Malti.

“Another of my painting is named 'Thoughts flying high', where the mind is a cradle for thoughts to evolve and fly to the magical realm of imagination and possibilities. We are what our thoughts are — the soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts,” she added.

Her collections were previously displayed at a solo exhibition in the Sultanate of Oman entitled 'Color of Oman’. The artworks were representative of the dynamic and colorful culture of the country. Her works were also exhibited at the Koomaraswamy Art Gallery, Mumbai.

She describes the exhibition as an interplay of higher consciousness with the real human condition. Her works under 'Transcend', personify an inner world of serenity and calm observation which ultimately enable a soul to access its highest self. For her, art is similar to story telling without words.

She says that technology has brought art closer to the common man. More people are opting for digital works than ever before. But she adds that the digital world is still trying to understand paintings in the Renaissance era. The only difference those paintings had was the human touch, the perseverance and the mood. Every element adds to it and its value is only going to increase with time.

Her dream, as an artist, is to be known for a particular style and for the distinctive thought process behind each painting.

“You have to find inspiration in every thing that you see, smell, hear or taste. Never be afraid of experimenting as you really don't know what you will be good at. This means experimenting in terms of techniques or medium,” Menon encourages budding artists out there.
