Up until a few weeks back, Amala Paul was not the grim picture as some media is trying hard to paint now. From her very first movie, Amala exuded a natural confidence, and along with her bubbly exuberance, she easily became an audience favorite, attained career highs effortlessly, and was known as Mollywood's Priyanka Chopra - all in a span of just seven years!
Although she did minor roles in a couple of Malayalam and Tamil movies, it was Mynaa and Deiva Thirumagal that gave her a break. Amala's remarkable on-screen presence and impressive looks fetched her a handful of projects. But she was not just about beauty and looks, the girl from Aluva knew how to emote and act, the ultimate reason why she could land as many as 30 projects in a short span of time.
On June 12, 2014 , when Amala got married to young and the-then-aspiring director AL Vijay, we were all happy for her. One, for the fact that she had announced that she will not leave the film industry. The other was an assumption based on a notion that getting married to a family with film connections would help her go up the ladder. But no, fate had it otherwise and the split between the couple shocked one and all.
But when Vijay's father, AL Azhagappan, who still lives in the 18th century, came on a Tamil TV and said Amala was going on a "signing-spree," that shock turned into anger. Three cheers to Amala Paul's decision to part with that spineless husband, who said he "will go by parents' decision."
Now, as Azhagappan and his son head to the US for a "back bone fitting surgery", let's have a look at our dear Amala's five best roles:
♦ Mili in Mili: This simple feel-good movie by late director Rajesh Pillai was mostly appreciated for the way Amala carried the whole film on her shoulders and one can undoubtedly say it was the best in her career.
♦ Irene in Oru Indian Pranayakadha: Apparently, it was Amala's dream to work with director Sathyan Anthikad and we bet she was the best choice as Irene. Her innocent look and natural dialogue delivery were praised by critics and she became a favorite among family audiences.
♦ Renuka in Run Baby Run: Acting alongside a superstar is no mean task. But, Amala proved her mettle as Renuka, the journalist, who was much more than an eye candy in a Mohanlal movie. Her performance was almost at par with the legendary actor that at times.
♦ Shanti Gopal in Amma Kanakku: Seeing the 28-year-old actress playing a 13-year-old's mother was indeed refreshing. Amala Paul's scintillating performance in this movie won her many accolades.
♦ Mynaa in Mynaa: A Journey of Love, reads the tagline of the movie Mynaa. And trust us when we say Amala's genuine smiles and expressive face will linger with you for days after watching the movie.
