Mammootty and Shaji kailasP Sreekumar and Madhupal are gearing up for big-budget flick Karnan with Mammootty playing the title role. In an exclusive interview with Onmanorama, Sreekumar had revealed details about the film, which he has been working on for 18 years, and is now set to to made with a budget of Rs 50 crore.
Sreekumar had mentioned director Shaji Kailas's interest in the project and recently at an event, Shaji himself revealed why he couldn’t take up the project.
"It was around five years ago that I happened to hear the script. The script is brilliant and I badly wanted to helm it. I know how much work Sreekumar has done for this”, said Shaji.
“The reason why I opted out of the project is because of its big budget. It was difficult for me to find a producer for a movie to be made on such a scale then.”
Directors Hariharan and Venu Nagavalli had also expressed an interest in the movie. The Macta Federation was supposed to produce it, though it failed to materialise.
