An amazing storehouse of vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients, papaya is considered a fruit that could be enjoyed by everyone. As it contains meagre amount of sugar, diabetic patients too could include papaya in their diet.

Moreover, papaya is considered excellent for women who suffer from hormone irregularities. Despite its incredible nutritional qualities, experts advise against eating papaya along with a few food items.

These are the food items that shouldn’t be paired with papaya.

Milk and milk products
Papaya contains an enzyme called papain which hinders the digestion of the protein in milk and milk products. This may lead to digestive problems and stomach ache. So, it is better to avoid consuming milk or milk products just before or after consuming papaya.

Raw papaya
Even though it is safer to eat ripe papaya, the uncooked raw ones contain high quantities of papain and latex which causes stomach ache, diarrhoea and contractions in pregnant women.

Fish
Eating papaya with fish may cause allergic reactions in some people. This is known as fish – papaya syndrome and its symptoms are itching and difficulty to breathe. Those who are allergic to seafood should strictly avoid eating fish with papaya.

High protein food
The papain in papaya slows down the digestion of protein in red meat, chicken and eggs. This may lead to indigestion and other discomfort. So, do not pair papaya with food that are extremely high in protein.
