'We were expecting a tectonic Budget- something that would have made some drastic changes to spur the economy that had taken a beating post demonetization'.

Speaking to Onmanorama post the Budget, Jose Dominic, the CEO of Kerala-based CGH Earth Group said that he was disappointed about the Budget in general. “Given the abnormal ambiance before the budget and the discussion prior to it, we were expecting more.”

The group runs the Casino chain of hotels in Kerala and in other states. He said it was too early to comment about the Budget implications for the tourism sector. The sector has taken a hit following demonetization and the state government's liquor ban.

“As the finance minister said, we are a non-tax compliant society, there should be a stringent regime by which people who do not pay taxes should have been brought in and penalized,” he added.
