This house, built in just 3 cents, at a beautiful spot near the iconic Kovalam beach in Thiruvananthapuram stands out for its smart designs and compact features.
Vishnu and Anice who work in Technopark and their young daughter Vinaya are thrilled to show around their brand-new house. In the beginning, the owner had wished to purchase a plot and build a house there. However, the exorbitant price of land here deterred them from pursuing the idea. It was then that Vishnu’s eyes had landed on the 3 cents plot close to his ancestral home. However, many tried to dissuade him from building a house there as it is a narrow plot with a road frontage of just 7 metres.
Finally, engineer Krishnaprasad, who is also the family’s relative took over the task of designing a fabulous house here. He is actress Anu Sithara’s brother-in-law. It was Krishnaprasad who designed the actress’s new house in Wayanad. Interestingly, the owner of this house is the engineer’s cousin.
The elevation features the simple yet elegant flat box style in order to fit in such a small plot. Meanwhile, the Scandinavian theme of the house is unique and classy. The interiors are minimal without stuffing the spaces with unnecessary décor or furniture. The walls mostly don the elegant combination of white and grey tones.
Two vehicles could be easily parked in the front yard. The structure has been closely built to the ancestral home, taking advantage of a legal provision.
The splendid abode built in 1700 sqft, has living and dining areas, an open kitchen with a work area and a bedroom on the ground floor. Meanwhile, there are two more bedrooms, an upper living area and a balcony on the upper floor. The open terrace allows the family to add more facilities, if required, in the future.
The pantry kitchen is quite simple and perfectly suits the lifestyle of the couple who are IT professionals. An adjacent work area completes the modern kitchen.
The dining area, meanwhile, is arranged close to the pantry area, beneath the staircase. A wash area too has been arranged here.
The stairway leads to the upper living area. From here, one could enter the balcony which is decorated with stylish indoor palms.
It was quite a challenge designing the house by retaining a well that never dries up, on the backside. This was overcome seamlessly through smart designs and perfect execution. Now, the well ‘technically’ stands inside the structure, even though it is still outside. There is no floor or surrounding walls in this area. But, a bedroom in the upper floor is directly above the well.
The construction of this amazing abode, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on an affordable budget of Rs 42 lakh. The family says that the house is filled with natural sunshine and a cool breeze that exude a positive ambience.
