Rajnath and Preetha wanted a charming house that exudes positive vibes in their quaint 5.5 cents of land in Nemom, Thiruvananthapuram. They had communicated their likes and demands when they roped in noted architect Srijith to design their dream abode. Even though the small plot and the surroundings posed a challenge, Srijith took up the challenge to design a fabulous house by catering to the wishes of the family members.

You could describe this house as a brick structure with walls that are not concrete-proofed. There is no overdose of harsh colours that do not appeal to the eyes. Instead, you would find the rustic charm of brick–cement finish.

The huge Jali wall built by layering the bricks in a unique design is the highlight of the elevation. This spectacular perforated lattice brick facade acts as a screen for the upper floor, ensuring enough privacy too.

Interestingly, the house has been designed by foregrounding the motto ‘finding beauty organically’. The small family that has a busy schedule cannot keep aside much time for maintaining the house. So, one of the main aims of adding a rustic finish was to make maintenance easier and hassle-free.

The beautiful house designed in 2360 sqft has a car porch, living and dining areas, a kitchen with an adjacent work area, and two bedrooms with attached bathrooms on the ground floor. Meanwhile, the upper floor has two more bedrooms, a bathroom, a study area, a gym and an open terrace.

As the interiors are designed in the semi-open style, the areas are extremely space efficient and look vaster too. Meanwhile, lots of windows have been installed at the right spots to complement the layout of the plot. These windows welcome fresh air and natural sunshine into the house adding to the splendid ambience of the interiors.

The dining area with the double-height ceiling is the highlight of the interiors. This is the area that connects both floors. The beautiful indoor plants on both sides of the dining area add a hint of pleasant greenery here.

The open kitchen is simple yet has all the facilities. Interestingly, a sliding glass door in the dining area opens to the green courtyard. This makes sure that there is some greenery around the house which is surrounded by concrete buildings.

The bedrooms are designed to ensure privacy as there are lots of buildings in the vicinity. The bath-attached bedrooms have in–built wardrobes and separate dressing spaces too.

The house shines against the twilight sky when the warm-toned highlighter lights are switched on. In an incredible feat, architect Sreejith who designed this amazing house won the World Architecture Community Award in 2022. The family, meanwhile, is delighted that their dream dwelling got noticed internationally for its creative design and amazing facilities.
