Thrissur: A man died in an explosion during a fireworks-related mishap at the St Xavier's Church festival in Thekkan Thanisseri, Mala. The victim, Francis Parekkadan (54), a resident of Thannissery, was fatally injured in the incident, which occurred around 2 pm on Sunday.

The explosion happened while leftover firecrackers, stored in a sack after a procession, were being burned for disposal. Despite being rushed to a private hospital in Mala, Parekkadan was declared brought dead.

Mala police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion, which will be confirmed following further inquiry.
