Kochi: The police have registered a case against eight people, including the Jail Deputy Inspector General (DIG), for allegedly extending unlawful assistance to Boby Chemmanur, who was arrested in a sexual assault case.

Infopark police filed the case based on a complaint from the Jail DGP under Section 86(1) of the Kerala Prisons and Correctional Services Act, 2010.

The accused in the case include Central Zone Jail DIG Ajayakumar P and Ernakulam District Jail Superintendent Raju Abraham, as well as six others, including two women who visited Boby during his detention at the Kakkanad jail on January 10.

The group, along with the DIG, arrived at Kakkanad Jail on January 10. The case alleges that the accused violated jail regulations by handing over Rs 200 to Boby.

"We have filed a case upon receiving a complaint from Jail DGP Aashish V. An initial investigation is currently underway. We will record the statements of the DIG, Jail Superintendent, and others in the coming days," Infopark CI Sajeev Kumar JS told Onmanorama.

Earlier in January, the Home Department suspended two senior officers amid the accusations of unauthorised visitor access.
