Chengannur: Sherin Joy loathed his father since his childhood. Last week, he shot Joy V. John in the head four times. He tried to burn up the body. He cut it into six pieces. And he shot a picture of the macabre sight on his tablet.
Sherin’s was an abused childhood. His father used to torture him even after he grew up. He was seen grinding his teeth when he narrated the ordeals at a press conference held by the police on Monday. Otherwise, he remained composed through the media interaction.
The police suspect that the father and the son were never in talking terms even in the early years. The gulf grew as years passed by.
Joy John, a former Air Force employee, was a difficult father. Sherin grew up in the United States with his mother and siblings in the initial years. Apparently, Joy liked beating up Sherin even as he cared for the other children. He had beaten up Sherin even after he grew up.
The later disputes had a concrete reason - money. Joy had warned Sherin that he would not give him a single penny from his assets and he would rather give them away for charity. Statements such as these made Sherin revengeful.
Sherin was always an outlier in the family. Joy would send him away from the house whenever his wife and other children visited. Sherin was forced to spent time in a hotel in Thiruvalla whenever his mother and siblings came home.
He was supposed to receive money from his father’s manager and sign a receipt voucher for it.
The father and the son had a tiff regarding the money collected from a tenant. Joy alleged that Sherin had taken the money, leading to an argument that probably killed Joy.
