Thiruvananthapuram: In a relief for school children, the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has directed the school authorities not to force students to wear shoes and socks during the rainy season.

The direction in this regard was issued by Chairperson Shobha Koshy and member K Nazeer on a complaint from a parent that children develop health problems when they are forced to wear wet socks and shoes.

The General Education Secretary, Director of Public Instructions and CBSE Regional officer have been directed to give instructions to the schools in this regard.

They have also been asked to file a compliance report within 10 days.

The direction comes at a time when the South West Monsoon is in full swing in Kerala.
