Sukanya, SurajThalayolaparambu (Kottayam): The police have arrested a person here for strangling a six-month pregnant woman to death and then dumping her body in a pond.
The body of the woman was retrieved from a pond in a quarry near a rubber estate close to Pothi railway overbridge here. Suraj (27) was arrested for allegedly killing and dumping the body of Sukanya (22).
Suraj has allegedly acknowledged that he killed Sukanya on October 13. Then the body was tied with stones and dumped in the pond.
The body was found floating on the surface in a decayed state. The police, who stumbled upon the relation between the two, questioned him which threw light on the gruesome murder.

The body was shifted to Kottayam medical college hospital after the fire force retrieved it from the pond.

Sukanya was a receptionist at a local private hospital and Suraj was a former ambulance driver there. Suraj had married the neighbor of Sukanya and an employee in the hospital about eight months ago.
On October 12, Sukanya did not return home after work. The police found that the two had been together in a rented car that day. At night, the two reached the spot of the murder and Suraj told Sukanya that they would commit suicide since she was pregnant. At about 3:00 am, he killed her and dumped the body.
Suraj said that he had planned to kill Sukanya two months ago. He also sent her SMSes to mislead people that she had been having affairs with others.
