Kakkanad: A mother fell to death from the 14th floor while trying to reach her kid who was trapped inside her flat.
Megha (23) who was living at the Asset Silicon Cyber Heights apartments, close to the Collectorate here, is the deceased. She had been living in the flat with her husband and child.
Megha lost her balance and fell from the 14th floor of her apartment, while trying to get inside by scaling a grill that ran close to the balcony on the back side of the flat. She had tried to get on to the grill from the parapet of the flat. The accident happened by about 1.30 PM.
Megha and her two-year old son were alone in the flat when the accident took place. She had come out of the flat to dispose waste from the kitchen, when the door closed due to winds. The automatic door clicked shut and the child was trapped inside the flat. The biometric lock could not be opened because Megha's fingerprint had not been recorded and the keys were inside the house. When the child started crying loudly, Megha sought help from the security personnel, who called out to painters working on the flat that they could enter using the grill on the back side of the flat. After the security personnel left, Megha tried to scale the grill, lost her grip and fell down. She first hit the asbestos shed below before crashing to the ground. Even though she was taken to the hospital immediately, she had died.
Her husband is a businessman and the family had moved to the flat one year ago. The body is at Sunrise Hospital, Kakkanad.
