After a brief lull, former Supreme Court judge Markandeya Katju, known for articulate posturing and fearless take on various issues, has taken a jibe at right wing Hindu groups.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, titled 'Sanghis are not Hindus,' he criticizes 'organizations and parties that claim to represent Hindus.' He says he is a real Hindu when compared to those parties representing it.
Explaining his statement, Katju writes that most Hindus, and most members of organizations and parties who claim to represent the religion, have 'little or no idea of the great Hindu intellectualism of the past, and of the real great intellectual achievements of our ancestors.'
Quoting his other blogs, Katju also says he is a 'strong champion of Sanskrit and Hindu Nyaya philosophy' even while being an atheist.
“Thus, I am a real Hindu, rather than these so-called Hindus, and organizations and parties which claim to represent Hindus, but really know little or nothing about Hinduism, but are only befooling the gullible and simpleton public to get their votes. They have nothing in their heads, but one thing in their hearts - hatred for minorities,” Katju wrote.
